What does PCI mean to fuel retailers?

PCI EPP standards require that fuel dispenser payment devices use the Triple Data Encryption Standard (TDES) algorithm to encrypt PIN data within the keypad. Devices must also include tamper-responsive security components and data skimming resistance.

• Tamper-responsive mechanisms deter criminal access to payment data and device removal
• Supports multiple industry-mandated encryption algorithms to protect data from the moment a card is swiped and information is entered into the keypad
• If a security breach should happen, Limited Functionality Mode (LFM) enables select payment and fueling transactions to continue by disabling only the affected functionality
